Jamie Packer: Technical Writer
I am a freelance technical writer specialising in microelectronics and software development tools. My practical experience as an engineer, and many years working with customers, gives me a good understanding of the needs of the target audience: hardware designers and software developers.
I have had a variety of roles over the years including designing microprocessor systems, software development, customer support, marketing and project management. I have also worked on the definition (and, of course, documentation) of design methodologies and business processes.
I worked in Japan for several years with inmos and ST, providing technical support to customers in the Asia-Pacific region. Later I worked for ST in Sicily where we set up a new design centre with a new design methodology. I was responsible for the design and verification of several system on chip designs.
Companies I have worked for include:
- inmos / STMicroelectronics: FAE, silicon design & verification, technical author
- HP: software engineer
- PixelFusion: product manager
- ClearSpeed: project manager, technical marketing, technical author
- XMOS: technical author
- ZiiLABS: technical author
- Infineon: technical writer, project management
- Cloudbase Paragliding: website and logo design

Unfortunately, I don't have a portfolio of work I can put on line. Nearly all the work I have done is only available under NDA.
